What is a volcanoe?

A volcanoe is a opening or rupture in the planets surface or crust, this allows hot molten rock, ash and gasses that scape from below the surface. Volcanic activity that has extrusion of rocks tends to form mountains over a period of time. Volcanoes are most found on tectonic plates (diverging or converging). Volcanoes are also formed when there is streching and thinning of the earths crust. Volcanoes can be caused also as mountain plumes, these also called hotspots for example at Hawaii, can occur far from plate boundaries

Volcanic Features

The most common perception of a volcanoe is of a conical mountain, spewing lava and posionous gasses from its crater. But the features of all vocanoes are much more compicated. Some volcanoes have lava domes instead of a crater, for example. Others present big landscapes such as huge plateous. Others types of volcanoes that are on moons of some planets dont have magama activity.

The types of Volcanoes

There are 4 types of volcanoes and these are Cinder cones, Composite volcanoes, Shield volcanoes and lavas domes.

Cinder cones volcanoes are the simplest type of volcanoes they are built from blobs of congelated lava ejected from a single vent. As the gas lava is blown violently into the air, it breks down into smaller particles that solidify and fall as cinders, around a vent to form a circular or oval cone. Almost all of the cinder cone volcanoes have a bowl shaped crater. They are numerous at the western norh America.

Composite volcanoes are some of the world greatestt mountains, and they are sometimes called Stratovolcanoes. They are steep sided, symmetrical cones of large dimmention built of alternating layers of lava flows, vocanic ash, cinders, blocks and bombs. One of the most known of omposite volcanoes is the Mount Fuji in Japan.

Shield Volcanoes are almost built entirely of lava flows. This types of volcanoes are the ones most big of the world. It has a sloping cone flat, domical shape.

Lava Domes are formed by small viscous lava flows that cannot flow any great distance. A dome grows larger by expasion from within. When it grows its outer surface cools and hardens and then shatters. Volcanic domes communly occur within the craters or on the flanks of arge composite volcanoes

Project Introduction

Hi my name is Pedro Leon, i am an student of Colegio Menor. I was assigned to do a project for science and computers about volcanoes. In this project i am a scientist, a volcanologist, that is researching about volcanoes in the earth. In my project i will give a speech for the National Geographic channel about the Volcanoes. In this speech i will talk about the types of volcanoes, the building of volcanoes and how they work.

I hope you will like my presentation...
